The Ebenos House is a space of interiority. An intervention project, the house preserves the existing bungalow and adds a second floor, with a complete interior reconstruction. The process is shaped by the client’s priority on family—to create an essential space for the family through succeeding the old family house. The elongated rectangular plan is divided into six spaces by the longitudinal axis in the middle, derived from the preserved windows, and the central circulation, predetermined by the old staircase and entrances. Within this sexpartite system, each floor accommodates each family member. Programming the house minimally, the two gathering spaces, the dining room and the kitchen, on both sides of the staircase gain a double height, connecting the entire house zenithally through void and light. Casting shadow on its face, the Ebenos House illuminates inwardly. The purity of its concept reflects the fundamental values of architecture and of a home.
